Lake House - Master Suite
I love, love, love this master suite. As I previously mentioned, my client’s design taste is light and airy with a hint of glitz, but her husband has a more rustic and natural design style. While some spaces in the home lean a little more towards here taste, it was important to me to marry the two styles inside the master suite. I think this space is the perfect harmony of the two.
Let’s start by taking a look at some of the bedroom’s inspiration renderings and progress photos.
In the bedroom, I incorporated a stained knotty alder, tongue and groove ceiling that highlights the vaulted architecture. Combined with the stone fireplace, stained window mullions/doors, and fur pillows, it has the perfect dose of natural textures and masculinity. On the other hand, the white beams, beaded chandelier, pearl leather camel-back sofa with matching bolster pillows, and upholstered canopy bed provide the perfect feminine balance to the more rustic features. The walls are wrapped in grass cloth, and the trim is the perfect shade of warm white. I love the combination of neutral grays and beiges in this room, and the carpet is oh-so-cushy to walk on. The whole space screams comfortable luxury when you walk in.
The master closet is a shoe collector’s dream. I incorporated a small island in the middle which has velvet lined jewelry drawers, undergarment dividers, and a place to sit down to put your shoes on. The beaded chandelier is over-the-top, and I’m now a firm believer that every walk-in-closet deserves a dramatic light fixture. Every inch of this 10’ high space has been utilized and taken advantage of.
Just off the master closet is the master bathroom complete with soaking tub, steam shower and private water closet. I drew my initial inspiration from the amazing custom-blend mosaic tile floor in the shower from Pratt and Larson. I loved how it combined gray, blue, beige, and white. The wood-like tile flooring flows right into the master closet and water closet for a seamless look between the spaces.
The rustic shelving in the water closet and custom framed wood grain mirror over the sink help introduce hints of rustic and balance nicely with the softer lighting fixtures, glass sinks, and glazed ceramic tile.
In the linen cabinet adjacent to the shower, the bottom disguises access to the steam unit and the top houses towel storage. Even though the ceiling height is 10’, by lowering the shower ceiling and putting a bulkhead over the sink, it keeps this space feeling cozy and comfortable.
While the private water closet provides privacy for the user, the south facing window in that room was a wonderful source of light, so I designed the door to have frosted glass to allow light to still penetrates the rest of the space.
Clean. Classic. Contemporary... with a hint of rustic character to make everyone happy. I love how this suite came together and that I was able to seamlessly combine his and her style. More rooms in this home coming soon; next up is the 'craft room' and it's my FAVORITE room in the entire house! You'll see why...
