It’s that time again! Parade of Homes time!

This year, I worked with Mosaic Properties to design a spec home for their development Balsam Waters in Grand Rapids. This home is 3403 square feet, and listed at $609,000. Designing spec homes is a fun challenge because while you have to design it ‘neutral’ enough that it appeals to lots of different types of families and couples, it also has to be special enough that someone can see themselves making it their home.

After designing everything attached to the home (i.e. - tile, paint colors, flooring, plumbing, lighting, cabinetry, etc), I collaborated with 4 local artists to feature their art in the home. I utilized a neutral color palette throughout with paint colors and materials, and introduced a combination of traditional and classic light fixtures. All of the main areas of the home used oil rubbed bronze finish on door hardware, plumbing, cabinet hardware, and lighting. This created a cohesive flow throughout the home. I was also inspired by the chairs in the living room, and based the color palette in the entire main level off of this fabric.

The master suite was my “WOW” room. The builder told me to design something for the ceiling that he had not seen before. While I was on a walk through my neighborhood, I saw the front of this garage and was so inspired by it!

I decided to utilize the diamond shaped battens and put them on my cathedral ceiling. The whole master suite felt so spa-like, relaxing, and serene. I love how it turned out, and love how Barry Elz’s paintings really made it pop!

The lower level was designed around David Warmenhoven’s giraffe painting. I am a super fan of his animal paintings. At my previous job, there was a 6’x4’ tortoise (I named him Herbert!) over my desk. This giraffe is his long lost brother! The navy sofa, mustard yellow chair, and pops of color in the pillows, throw, rug, and accessories made this lower level so cheery and fun! It definitely didn’t feel like a basement!
